Located in the soccer ball of Italy, just off the toe of the infamous boot, Sicily is the largest Meddeteranian island and worth spending a few days on. Spend time on the beach, hiking, visiting ancient ruins, and tasting classic Sicilian food. This is the best Italy itinerary for someone who wants a really classic experience. It covers the most important sites and major cities in Italy that most visitors will want to see on their first trip to Italy.
Even so, I scooped up a Moleskine City Notebook for a trip to Lisbon, and I loved it. Having different sections to pop my various lists into, plus plenty of room for random thoughts, made me much more organized. And having a thorough map of the city’s different neighborhoods embedded right in the notebook’s pages was unbelievably helpful. And don’t miss myguide to the best Italian gifts,or my previous guide to the best gifts for travelers to Italy.

I hope you found some unique gift ideas for the traveler in your life who likes to pack light. Spend the majority of your time in Lucca, an amazing walled city, largely free from traffic and filled with beautiful architecture. I think it’s one of the best cities to visit in Italy. Rent a bike and ride around the ancient walls of the city. You can even take a self-guided bike tour of the city.Be sure to grab a few gelatos during your time in Lucca as these were some of my favorite gelato shops in Italy. The beautiful towns built on cliffs are honestly one of the best things to see in Italy.
The ultimate souvenir from the island of Capri—where the grottos are blue, the cliffs are limestone, and the vacationers are often famous—is a pair of custom, made-to-order leather sandals. These days, you don’t have to actually have to step foot on the island to buy a pair. Canfora, a shop located at Via Camerelle 3, Capri, takes orders online, too. Every pair is sewn by hand in the Capri shop using genuine Italian leather, with an iron arch support within, and rubber soles. A pair of these sandals would be ideal for the friend patiently waiting for a tropical vacation. This 60-minute Florence-based interior design webinar tours a historic private apartment in the Santa Croce neighborhood.

If you love the idea of colorful houses perched on cliffs overlooking the sea add a side trip to the Cinque Terre for 3 nights and an extra day to Rome or Venice. You can reach La Spezia for the Cinque Terre easily by train from Florence with a quick stop off to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Made-In-Italy.com was born of a desire to create an exciting destination for people all over the world who love Italy.
Don’t be discouraged by not being able to do it all. There is still so much that you can see just in a day and a half! Be sure to read my guide to Rome in One Day before you go. These are our recommendations of useful travel gifts for men and women who like to travel. I’ve noticed that a lot of gift guides for travelers are full of gimmicky stuff.

Spend a day and a half exploring museums, walking along the Ponte Vecchio, and eating gelato in this renowned city of culture. You can start your Italy itinerary anywhere you wish, but I always recommend starting in Rome. Rome is the third most visited city in Europe, after Paris and London, with 7-10 million visitors per year, and for good reason. I love getting off the beaten path, but there are just some places that are a must see in Italy! There are literally hundreds of choices you can make for your first Italy itinerary, and they would all be amazing.
Italian Wine – Of course, a good bottle of Italian wine is never an unwelcome gift at the holidays, especially to someone who appreciates what the Italians have done with the grape over the years. There are lots of varietals to choose from, and you can spend anywhere from $15 to $90 or more, so on this one it’s best if you make use of the friendly wine merchant at your local market. Just make sure they know what they’re talking about before you take their word as gospel – and ask if they’ve got wine tastings coming up where you can sample before you buy. This Vino Italiano guide is comprehensive and will make you an Italian wine expert in no time. But if you can’t be bothered to make your own, you can always go to your local liquor store and buy some (it’s not as good as the homemade stuff, but it’ll do). Illy Coffee – Everyone’s got a favorite coffee, and for many Italians it’s illy Coffee.
Italophiles are people that love Italian food, obsess over Italian wine and speak highly of their trips to the country. If you are familiar with Murano, a collection of islands which floats beyond the Venetian Lagoon, then you know it is renowned for making glass. Glass has been its main export since the 13th century, and in their prime artisans enjoyed high status and created the transparent fine glass as well as milk glass, which resembles porcelain. These vivid Christmas tree sculptures from the 1980s make beautiful use of the medium and are just right for the antique collector in your life.
Shipping policies vary, but many of our sellers offer free shipping when you purchase from them. Typically, orders of $35 USD or more qualify for free standard shipping from participating Etsy sellers.
This classic pandoro is 1kg of delicious, guilt-free cake in a box. Made to a Veronese-style recipe, it’s something you can also eat for breakfast. Pinot Grigio, also known as pinot gris, does not have the reputation of its relative Pinot Noir . However, when made beautifully and with care, as it is here, it’s clear that it is a special varietal in its own right. The honeyed, melon character with flinty minerality is both expressive and one-of-a-kind.
I do recommend that if you choose this itinerary, you book a trip for late spring or early fall as the lakes do get crowded during the summer, and are very cold during the winter months. This Lakes of Northern Italy itinerary is one of my favorites, and not something that most people try. This is best Italy itinerary if you’re intereseted in exploring the beautiful lakes of Northern Italy. It’s some of the most gorgeous scenery you’ll ever see in your life. How long should you plan for your trip around Italy? Two weeks in Italy is really nice, but if that’s not an option for you, I think that 10 days in Italy is a good amount of time for your first visit.
Italophiles, connoiseurs, the curious, gli amanti del bel paese. We are here for anyone who wants to learn more about the Italian way of life and to share his or her own input about the Italian lifestyle. Do you have a friend who is always saying they’d like to learn to speak Italian, if so why not consider enrolling them in a language course? Many local colleges have evening courses, or if you’d like something less regimented, try one of the online language specialists like Babbel who allow you to learn at your own pace. Italian Soccer Jersey – There’s nothing like showing love for your team by donning their jersey.
Be sure not to miss the imposing Duomo of Milan and The Last Supper if you are interested in art history. I recommend getting up early in the mornings to see sites like the Pantheon and Spanish Steps before the rest of the tourists wake up. From there you can take a water taxi or water bus to anywhere in the city.
